National Museum Wales
Amgueddfa Cymru — National Museum Wales is made up of seven museums. I was asked to develop branding for three of them, for use on merchandise within the museum shops.
Located in a village near Cardiff, St Fagans National History Museum is an open-air museum chronicling the historical lifestyle, culture, and architecture of Wales. It consists of more than forty re-erected buildings from various Welsh locations, and is set in the grounds of St Fagans Castle, an Elizabethan manor house.
National Museum Cardiff houses five hundred years of magnificent art from Wales and across the world, including one of Europe's best collections of Impressionist art. The building also has galleries showing the diverse natural history of Wales.
Big Pit National Coal Museum in Blaenavon, was a working coal mine from 1880 to 1980. The site is now dedicated to the heritage of coal mining in Wales, the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.
The bilingual logos I designed for the three sites attempt to capture the unique essence of each, employing repeated graphic shapes and devices, arranged differently for each museum.
